APRIL 3, ’17 HATCHING IN PROGRESS!!!!!!

APRIL 3, ’17   HATCHING IN PROGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MARCH 14, ’17 AT 9:30 AM GARY PUT 41 EGGS IN THE INCUBATOR—– THAT HE BOUGHT AT TRACTOR SUPPLY STORE.

BUT NOT JUST ANY EGGS—DID HE PUT TO SET IN THE INCUBATOR– THEY CAME FROM OUR HENS——- OUR FIVE LITTLE BANTAM HENS!!!

chick-group-photoblanche-kathern-plummerblanchechick-emmie

EGGS FERTILIZED BY OUR ROOSTERS———–

AND WITH ONLY HAVING FIVE HENS—- WE HAD TO SAVE EGGS TO GET 41 TO SET IN THE INCUBATOR———–

GARY HAS BEEN THE MOTHER HEN IN THIS WHOLE PROCESS——- DOING ALL THE WORK——–

MARCH 18TH THE FIRST FERTILITY TEST OF THE EGGS—– THE FIRST CANDLING OF THE EGGS!!!  AND ALL WERE FERTILE!!!

MARCH 28TH WAS THE SECOND FERTILITY TEST AND WE DROPPED DOWN TO 32 EGGS— AT THIS CANDLING!!!

HUMIDITY FOR DAYS– 1-18 WAS 50 PERCENT—- AND FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS HUMIDITY IS SUPPOSE TO BE 70 TO 80 PERCENT——–

APRIL 2 WE STOPPED THE EGG TURNER & REMOVED THE EGG TURNER & VERY –OH SO CAREFULLY GARY PLACED THE EGGS ON THE SCREEN IN THE INCUBATOR WITH THE EGG TURNER OUT OF THE INCUBATOR!!!!!!!!

THEN THIS  MORNING APRIL 3—–  OUR POWER WENT OUT—- THE POWER WENT OUT– NO HEAT FOR THE INCUBATOR!!!!!!!!!!

WE COVERED THE INCUBATOR WITH BLANKETS– & THIS STARTED THE WRINGING OF HANDS– & GASHING OF TEETH!!      🙂    AND PRAYING FOR THE POWER TO COME ON–AND FOR US NOT TO LOOSE THESE CHICKS NOW————— DON’T LET THOSE EGGS GET TOO COLD NOW——————–

THE POWER WAS OFF FOR 5 HOURS————- TOTAL—- BUT————

GARY WENT TO OUR STORAGE UNIT & GOT OUR GAS POWERED GENERATOR– AND BROUGHT IT TO THE HOUSE– & STARTED THE GAS  GENERATOR OUTSIDE OF THE UPSTAIRS FAMILY ROOM IN THE YARD—– & RAN A LONG LONG CORD DOWN STAIRS TO THE BASEMENT FAMILY ROOM– WHERE THE INCUBATOR HAS BEEN SET SINCE MARCH 14TH!!!!!

GARY KEPT CHECKING TEMPS– & HUMIDITY—-WITH THE GENERATOR RUNNING- AND THE HEAT STARTED GETTING HIGHER– HE ADDED MORE WATER TO GET THE HUMIDITY UP—– AND THE POWER FINALLY CAME BACK ON———–

ABOUT 15 MINUTES AGO——— MOTHER HEN– GARY ANNOUNCED THE EGGS ARE HATCHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HALLELUJAH

THESE ARE MIRACLE CHICKS—— WE LOST POWER—— PRAISE GOD FOR THE GENERATOR—– OR WE WOULD HAVE LOST THEM FOR SURE———- AS FIVE HOURS WITHOUT POWER WOULD HAVE BEEN THE END OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO FAR– WE HAVE A BLACK SPECKLED ONE—- AND TWO WHITE ONES——–

MOTHER HEN– GARY WAS NOT EXPECTING HATCHING TO START UNTIL TOMORROW– AS THAT IS DAY 21——-  SO HE IS AT THE  BURNS, KS. HARDWARE STORE GETTING ALL THE REST OF THE STUFF HE NEEDS FOR THE CHICKS–

THEY ARE HATCHING— BUT TOO WET TO TAKE OUT OF THE INCUBATOR YET—

GARY BOUGHT A HORSE TANK FOR THE GARAGE LAST WEEK- & HAS INSULATED IT– AND HAS A SCREEN FOR THE TOP—  CHICK STARTER FOOD—– FOOD & WATER DISHES– HEAT LAMPS— ETC-ETC—  BUT BEFORE THEY GO TO THE BIG HORSE TANK/ NURSERY IN THE GARAGE—- WE WILL PUT THEM IN A BIG TUB — WITH HEAT– ETC- ETC -ETC  — TO GET THEM OFF TO A GOOD START——- IN THE HOUSE— ALSO WE CAN WATCH THEM FOR A WHILE– & MAKE FOR SURE THEY ARE WARM ENOUGH!!!

SO FAR THREE CHICKS HAVE HATCHED—- THEY ARE STILL WET—- SO NO CHECKING THEM YET——- BUT I DO HEAR PEEPING COMING FROM THE INCUBATOR——– THE HARDEST PART IS LEAVING THEM ALONE—– & LETTING MOTHER NATURE DO IT’S JOB– AND NOT KEEP LOOKING—– THE INCUBATOR HAS A WINDOW IN THE TOP– BUT IT IS COVERED WITH HUMIDITY– SO I CAN’T SEE IN——–

WELL THE WRINGING OF HANDS & GASHING OF TEETH IS OVER—-     🙂

MOTHER HEN– GARY— IS SMILING BIG—– WHICH IS NOT A NORMAL FOR GARY—- HE IS QUIET & RESERVED—— &   DOESN’T SHOW HIS FEELINGS OFTEN—–

SO FAR THREE MIRACLE CHICKS———–

HAVING PROBLEMS– DOWN LOADING PICTURES- SO I HOPE TO BE ABLE TO DOWN LOAD PICTURES I AM TAKING ON MY CAMERA TO GARY’S COMPUTER & E-MAIL THEM TO MY COMPUTER– & BE ABLE TO POST THEM LATER———

HALLELUJAH

WE ARE HAVING BABY CHICKS—– HOPE MORE EGGS WILL KEEP HATCHING—

LATER———

About sondasmcschatter

I was encouraged to start a blog as I suffer from MCS /multi chemical sensitivities & other health problems & I have helped several hundred others who suffer from MCS set up "Safe Homes" & given them encouragement & HOPE & share information & lots of laughs along the way also. When you choose to use fragrances, chemicals, or pesticides, You are not simply making a choice for yourself, You are making a choice for everyone around you!!!! What makes me an expert on MCS-- not a darn thing-- BUT have lived with it for years-& years- & have learned lots the HARD WAY-- by experience!! And want to give others help & HOPE & encouragement -- as I know there are not many who understand what it is to live with this illness- & ALL THAT GOES WITH IT!!! Internet has been my way of communication with many who we are confined to their "safe homes" all over the USA & other countries!! I have communicated with many HUNDRED by e-mail-- phone & letters & internet forums-- I hope this blog will help in a better way to share laughter-- hope & information!!! As for many are not any longer able to even leave their homes-- & communication is sooo important & sharing & encouragement & GIVING HOPE!!!

  1. So glad the wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth are over. Yay!

  2. Colleen says:

I DON’T KNOW IF I’VE HELD A BABY CHICK. ARE THEY AS SOFT AND SILKY AS THEY LOOK?

    • YES THEY ARE— BUT WE TRY NOT TO HOLD THEM– UNTIL THEY HAVE SOME AGE ON THEM & MORE FEATHERS– SO THEIR IMMUNE SYSTEMS ARE STRONGER—– RIGHT NOW WE HAVE 5 CHICKS IN A CONTAINER WITH FOOD & WATER & GRIT & HEAT LAMPS– IN THE FAMILY ROOM-IN THE BASEMENT– AND TWO IN THE INCUBATOR DRYING OUT & BUILDING STRENGTH FOR ALL THE WORK OF GETTING OUT OF THE EGG SHELL— AND WE CAN SEE TWO MORE EGGS THE BABIES ARE STARTING TO PECK THEIR WAY OUT— THE ELECTRICITY WENT OFF AGAIN THIS MORNING— IF WE HAD NOT HAD THE GENERATOR TO KEEP THE INCUBATOR WARM– & THE HEAT LAMP ON THE CHICKS WE COULD HAVE LOST THEM ALL AGAIN—— SO WE DO HAVE MIRACLE CHICKS– PRAISE GOD FOR THE GENERATOR!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Debra Farmer says:

Gary has such a wonderful kind soul!!! Those little rascals were in a hurry, coming early. Can’t wait to see photos!!

  4. Your Bantams are beautiful! We raised them a few decades ago when our girls were young and we had a farm in Southern Maine. My favorite gal was “Blondie,” who loved to perch on my shoulder when I’d head out to the small barn. They are such a delight and chicks too… Enjoy! 🙂
