The Drinkwater & Schriver Flour Mill on the Cottonwood River at Cedar Point, Kansas operated for over 100 years. The grist mill produced flour for both the local area and eastern bakeries. It was started as a saw mill by Cedar Point Postmaster, O.H. Drinkwater. With the assistance of Peter Paul Schriver, the wooden sawmill and dam were replaced by these stone structures in 1875. The first mill was built in 1867 by O.H. Drinkwater.

THIS WAS ONE OF  MY FAVORITE SUBJECTS TO TAKE PICTURES OF WHEN WE LIVED IN THIS AREA BEFORE— & I PROBABLY HAVE TAKEN WELL OVER 1,500 PICTURES OF THIS MILL AT ALL SEASONS & ALL TIMES OF DAY——–

About sondasmcschatter

I was encouraged to start a blog as I suffer from MCS /multi chemical sensitivities & other health problems & I have helped several hundred others who suffer from MCS set up "Safe Homes" & given them encouragement & HOPE & share information & lots of laughs along the way also. When you choose to use fragrances, chemicals, or pesticides, You are not simply making a choice for yourself, You are making a choice for everyone around you!!!! What makes me an expert on MCS-- not a darn thing-- BUT have lived with it for years-& years- & have learned lots the HARD WAY-- by experience!! And want to give others help & HOPE & encouragement -- as I know there are not many who understand what it is to live with this illness- & ALL THAT GOES WITH IT!!! Internet has been my way of communication with many who we are confined to their "safe homes" all over the USA & other countries!! I have communicated with many HUNDRED by e-mail-- phone & letters & internet forums-- I hope this blog will help in a better way to share laughter-- hope & information!!! As for many are not any longer able to even leave their homes-- & communication is sooo important & sharing & encouragement & GIVING HOPE!!!

BEAUTIFUL. I’D LOVE TO SEE THE MILL TURN OUT SOME ORGANIC FLOUR AND THRIVE AGAIN. GLAD YOU HAD SUCH A LOVELY DAY.

    • THE MILL IS A LOST CAUSE—– I COULD WRITE A BOOK ABOUT THAT MILL— OF JUST WHAT I HAVE KNOWN ABOUT IT– FOR THE PAST 40 PLUS YEARS—— IT IS A COMMUNITY– THAT DOESN’T WANT CHANGE– & THE COMMUNITY IS DEAD— & THE MILL IS SO FAR GONE—— IT IS NOW— NOW— NOW A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!! SOMETHING COULD HAVE BEEN DONE YEARS AGO—BUT DON’T GET ME STARTED I DIDN’T COME WITH BRAKES!!!!!! 🙂

  2. Really enjoyed this! I hope in the future you do some of the “some-other-time” blog posts. Would love to read about all of it!

  3. Christa says:

    • THANKS CHRISTA—– YES THE ARTESIAN WELL WATER IS DRINKABLE— I KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN GOING OUT TO THAT WELL & GETTING THEIR MAIN DRINKING WATER THERE FOR YEARS!!!! WE HAVE DRANK IT FOR YEARS ALSO—– IT IS ICE COLD– & WITH THE MINERALS IT HAS IN IT– IT HAS WONDERFUL FLAVOR!!! IF THAT MAKES SENSE!!! 🙂 I HAVE NEVER KNOW THE WELL TO GO DRY IN ALL THE MANY YEARS I HAVE KNOWN ABOUT IT—

  4. Steve Spring says:

I am researching old mills of Kansas to document the Kansas Milling and Flour Industry. I have a pretty good background of the Drinkwater & Shriver Mill, aka Cedar Point Mill. I am looking for two bits of information regarding Captain Drinkwater, i.e. the Drinkwater Cemetery and his farm/house location. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You may respond to millfoto@aol.com. Thanks in advance.
